This month I’ve been building a mock-up website for the company Strava, as well as creating a series of tutorial videos teaching how to use various tech tools, you can view the full project here.

As an addition to the project, and to show my proficiency in using Mailchimp. I decided to build three email cadences for Strava. This is my documentation.

Just as a brief summary, Strava is a Progress tracker for various types of fitness, so the emails are revolving around fitness tracking.

The first thing I did was to create two email templates, one for the sales emails I would be writing, and the other was for a newsletter. The point of the newsletter template was to prove how easy it could be to create a newsletter.

Screenshot of my tutorial video.

Strava doesn’t have a newsletter but they have a blog so it would be super simple for them to create one, all they would need is an email template.

But the thing I was to focus on in this blog is the sales emails I wrote for them. You can also check out this video I made walking through the emails I created.

Email #1: General Running Email

The first email I created could be sent to a broad demographic. It basically describes how they could benefit from using the Strava app. Here is the copy for the first email:

“Hey (Person),

Elevate your running and workout experience by tracking and sharing your progress through the Strava app.

Strava turns every iPhone and Android into a sophisticated running and cycling computer (and we work with your GPS watches and head units, too). Start Strava before an activity and you can track your favorite performance stats, and afterwards, dive deep into your data.

Recording an activity in the app’s easy. The hard part is getting that effort started. So go out and get moving to log your first workout on Strava and see your activity data.

After you’ve tracked your progress you can share it with others! Working out is more fun when you’ve got others rooting for you from near and far. Find your friends on Strava and invite those who aren’t to join!

And that’s just a fraction of the features Strava offers, to learn more you can view our website here!”

Email #2: Workout Through the Holidays

This email would be targeted at a more specific demographic, people that are going through or who have previously gone through a weight-loss journey.

It specifies the importance of continuing to workout during the holiday. Because essentially, if people aren’t getting out and exercising, they’re not using the app. Here’s the copy for the second email:

“Hey (Person),

This holiday season, give yourself the gift of a healthy body.

We understand the holidays are difficult. Eating unhealthy food and desserts has become a worldwide tradition during the holiday season. Weight gain during the holidays seems inevitable.

But what if I told you that you can still participate in the food and fun while maintaining your health through the holiday season. The solution is using Strava to track your workouts! This year start a new holiday tradition of staying healthy with workouts and exercise.

It’s never been easier to keep yourself accountable with Stava’s fitness tracking methods. Don’t let the holidays set you back on your fitness journey. Start today and experience peace of mind through the holidays.

Starting out is always the hardest part of training. Once you’ve built momentum, it gets easier to sustain.

So start tracking your progress now with the Stava app on your mobile device or laptop! Interact with other people’s progress and hold yourself accountable through the fun sharing features.

It’s never been easier so don’t wait!”

Email #3: Beacon (A Feature of Strava)

The third email I created was promoting a specific feature that Strava provides called Beacon. Beacon is basically a tracking feature so that your loved ones can know you’re safe while you’re out for a run or a bike ride.

This email could be targeted towards a large variety of people, whether they have the app already or not. Teaching them about features they may not know about encourages them to use the app more frequently. Here’s the copy for the third email:

Hey (Person),

Strava is the athlete’s best friend. It allows you to track and share your training progress directly from your mobile device.

Stava is free and includes a list of features including Beacon.

Athletes can use the Beacon feature to provide peace of mind to their loved ones.

When you turn on Beacon and you can share your location in real-time with your friend, partner, parent, coach, butler, therapist, highly intelligent dog — anyone cool enough to have your back in an emergency.

When you download the Strava app, you can explore new routes and trails with security, knowing that your loved ones know where you are.

The grey box at the bottom of each page is just a little information on how you can connect your GPS device to Strava.

Then I linked all their social media platforms and their website at the bottom.

As a final addition, I gained a list of leads that I could send the emails to using Hunter.io. Click here to check out a blog I wrote teaching how I did it!

For additional information on how I created them be sure to check out the video I made. You can also check out this post I made on how to use Mailchimp!
