Hey! I’m spending 30 days building a series of tutorial videos and blog posts demonstrating how to use strategic tech tools that benefit startups. This is my tutorial on Mailchimp. If you’re interested in learning more about my project, you can view the full project here.

Building emails that are both engaging as well as beautiful is an awesome skill to gain. Mailchimp is the perfect tool to learn for that.

Mailchimp allows you to do a large variety of things including creating automated emails, building templates, tracking and analyzing the progress on your emails and so much more.

In this blog, I will be teaching you a simple way to build easy and engaging emails. You can also check out this video I made demonstrating how.

Step #1: Build a template.

This is especially helpful if you plan on building a series of similar emails with the same logo and format. You can even build several templates designed to fit your needs.

Here I built two email templates, one for a newsletter, and one for a sales email. I used Strava as my inspiration. To view the full walkthrough of 3 email cadences I created for Strava, click here.

Build your template to look exactly how you want your email to look minus the content. You can build a template by clicking “Create Template” in the right-hand corner, or you can click the pencil in the lefthand corner.

When you click on the pencil you’re brought to a list of options. There you can create your template or if you’ve already created your template, you’re ready to move on and click “Email”

Step #2: Design your email.

After you’ve chosen the template you want to work with, it will bring you to the design page.

Here you can drag and drop any content block, then edit it to your liking. Mailchimp has a large variety of options to help customize your email.

After you’ve finished designing it, click preview to see how it will look all finished. You can view it in mobile and desktop to make sure all the content translates well.

Step #3: Choose the subject and recipient.

Next, you’ll want to enter all your recipient’s emails and who the email will be sent from. After you’ve finished that, write your subject line and preview text.

Next, I suggest sending yourself a test email, just to make sure everything looks good. Then you’re ready to either send your email out immediately or schedule it to send out later.

You can also click “Finish Later” and keep them all in a folder ready to send as I have here:

Mailchimp allows you to create such a large variety of emails. I highly suggest checking it out. Click here to get started.
